Funabashi

Funabashi,close to Tokyo Bay and only 50 km away from Narita International Airport, is located in Chiba, near Tokyo. Now a satellite city of Tokyo, Funabashi has developed into one of the few residential business towns in the capital region, with a total population of 610, 000 and a size of 85.64 square kilometers. The city enjoys warm climate, with an annual highest temperature of 33℃ degrees and lowest temperature of 2℃ degrees below zero.

As early as in the Paleolithic Era, Funabashi has been inhabited and a Neolithic site traced to 1 to 2 000 years ago has been discovered in the city. Having the most developed railway system, the transportation in the jurisdictions is convenient with 10 railways running through.

Business, agriculture, industry and fishing are all highly developed in Funabashi, where the numerous stores play important roles in both Chiba and Japan. With a unique advantage of lying on the outskirt of the capital, Funabashi is able to provide fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers for Tokyo, such as carrot, spinach, pear and cyclamen. In terms of industry, basic material industry, mold and food industries accounts for more percentage than that of processing and assembly industries, being home to various enterprises such as Japan Jiantie (manufacturing electrical products) and Shijing Food(food manufacturing). Funabashi is also an important production place of kelp in Japan.

Funabashi established sister-city relationship with Xi’an on November 2, 1994.
