Xi’an Banpo Museum

Banpo relic site is one of comparatively complete and typical village heritages of matriarchal clan commune along Yellow River Basin. Located at the east of Chanhe River within the eastern outskirts and north of BanpoVillagein Xi’an City, Banpo Museum is the first prehistoric museum in China. It was completed in 1957 and was formally opened in 1958. It is both the national key cultural protection unit and valuable cultural heritage in China. Except cultural relics exhibition rooms (including 5 pavilions), there are also the Protection Hall based on the 3,000 square meters of primitive residential area. The houses, cellars, heated brick beds, collective tombs with separate male and female burial, various production and articles of daily use and other relics in Banpo site vividly show us the production and life conditions of ancestors during the prosperous period of matriarchal society over 6,000 years ago.
