There are many wall paintings in Da Ci’en Temple, which are the works of Yan Liben, Wu Daozi and other masters according to the saying.Templesare in the incense-shrouded scene with bell striking in the morning and drum playing in the evening, as well as the atmosphere of chanting sutras and learning scriptures. Besides, the yards are full of flowers blooming all year round which really demonstrating “with horses running excitedly in the warm spring wind, people could sightsee the whole beautiful scenery of Chang’ an City in one day.” Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which is viewed as the symbol of ancient capital Xi’an, is just within the temple. As it was built by imitating the pattern of Indian Wild Goose Pagoda, it got its name. It was said that it had been the place of Hierarch Xuan Zang specializing into the translation and collection of Sanskrit since he came back from India with fetching the scriptures. There stands a bronze statue of Hierarch Xuan Zang at the square in front of the main floor of the temple. As to the statue, The Hierarch Xuan Zang with a cane in his hand facing to the south and back to the temple gate. We don’t know whether he is going to fetch the scriptures to the distance or he has come back and is making the conclusions for his scripture fetching travel. Whatever it represents, all stand for a glorious history of Buddhism in China. Since the ending period of Tang Dynasty, the temple was destroyed for many times and all the palaces were burned down and only the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was left to stand lonely and toweringly in the world.
