The Forest of Stele Art

Located in the east of South Gate, it is famous for its forest-like steles. Meanwhile, it is also the earliest artistic treasure house for collection of ancient steles and with most famous steles in China. Initially built in the 2nd year of Yuanyou Period of Emperor Zhezong of Northern Song Dynasty (1087A.D.), it originally aimed for keeping the engraved Thirteen Confucian Classics and The Shitai Classic of Filial Piety in Kaiyuan Period of Tang Dynasty and then it was expanded gradually with the collections of ages and was started to be called as “Forest of Steles”. It covers 31,900 square meters and consists ofConfucianTemple,Forest of Stele and Stone Carving Art Room . There are seven exhibition rooms, six galleries and one Stele Pavilion with total area of 4,900 square meters.
