With Thousands of Years, Its Sound Has Been Well-known over the World

Drum Tower, located at the south end of Beiyuan Gate inWest Street, opposite to Bell Tower, was initially built in the 13th year of Hongwu Period during the domination of Taizu, Zhu Yuanzhang, of Ming Dynasty, four years older than Bell Tower and there has been 625 years so far. It was successively rebuilt for twice in the 38thyear of Kangxi Period of Qing Dynasty and the 5thyear of Qianlong Period of Qing Dynasty. Xi’an Drum Tower is the largest one in China currently and opposite to Bell Tower. Once there was a huge drum over the tower and people hit it to report the time, so the tower is called “DrumTower”. With thousands of years, the huge drum has been lost with only leaving the drum tower to stand toweringly and lonely.
