Bell Tower

Bell Sings for the Prosperous Age and Prays for Long-term Peace.

Xi’an Bell Tower is always at the first place among the same architectures regardless of evaluating from building scale, historical or artistic value and other aspects.

Eaves covered by bottle-green glazed tiles, inner side with gilded color painting as well as the luminously coloured pillars and artistically carved beams and treasured gold roof, all of which make the tower present a resplendent and magnificent scene. With it as the center, there are four avenues in east, south, west and north directions and these avenues are respectively connected with the east, south, west and north gate of Xi'an City Wall of Ming Dynasty.

Bell Tower, built in the 17th year of Hongwu Period during the domination of Taizu, Zhu Yuanzhang, of Ming Dynasty (1384 A.D.) was known as the iron bell hanging over the tower. It was initially built at the current Guangji Street opposite to Drum Tower and then in the 10th year of Shenzong Period of Ming Dynasty (1582 A.D.), led by Gong Xian, the imperial itinerant inspector, the whole Bell Tower was moved to the current site. The Bell Tower presents the typical artistic style of architecture in Ming Dynasty, with double-tiered eaves and corbel brackets, towering pyramidal roof and slightly warped eaves, which fully embodies the royal magnificence.
